Weston Gallery – I Think my Uncle Gershun is a Golum

2022

This installation at the Alice F. and Harris K. Art Gallery in Cincinnati, allowed Pam to explore her personal relationship with her Jewish faith, her family history and perseverance, intertwined with the story of Jewish people as a whole persevering amid anti-semitism throughout history.

As a child Pam saw her Uncle Gershun as an almost mythical person, capable of anything - like a Golum from Jewish lore. Large bunnies stand like sentries near the exhibit entrance - like Golums themselves, ensuring your safety. Continuing her exploration of using different media, this project added resin-molded objects, slipcasting, hand-made rugs, and the use of ‘Automata’ - using simple machines to allow users to bring her puppets and their stories to life. In one portion of the exhibit - in the spirit of the Jewish holiday of Purim - viewers are encouraged to grab a decorated Maraca, make some noise and stomp on rugs with antisemitic images from various time periods.

This exhibit brought all of Pam’s art-making and storytelling skills together creating a compelling narrative.
